5 reasons to upgrade your wireless backhaul solution with SIAE

With SIAE’s Carrier-Grade solutions, downtime and intermittent bandwidth will be a thing of the past. SIAE’s range features full outdoor IP radios that offer guaranteed throughput and high uptime availability. Their field-proven robust solutions will ensure that you have an interference-free link you can rely on.

Carrier-Grade Standard

One of the first reasons for upgrading your backhaul should be because you are switching over to Carrier-Grade hardware with SIAE. What does it mean for a radio link to be carrier-grade?

Carrier-grade means that a radio has been tested in such a thorough manner, that it will meet or exceed the “five nines” (99.999%) availability standard. The five nines availability standard is measured per annum. This means that the hardware is made to guarantee that your link will stay up for 99.999% of the year. Not only does this apply to the radio maintaining the link, but this also relates to the actual hardware being extremely durable.

All radios made by SIAE comply with the above-mentioned standard and are the radios of choice when choosing to go Carrier-Grade.

License-exempt/fully-licensed solutions available

With SIAE products from MiRO, you have the choice between going with an ISM license-exempt solution, or with a fully licensed solution. The former is available on 17GHz and allows for up to 500 Mbps of uncompressed Carrier-Grade reliable throughput, whilst the latter is available from 6- to 42Ghz in single- or dual polarised options, depending on your needs.

Why would I choose license-exempt 17GHz ISM

Although 17GHz is license-exempt, it is not the same as other congested ISM bands. You will not experience extreme congestion, because point-to-multipoint is not allowed in the 17GHz spectrum, and thus it does not suffer from sector antennae flooding large areas with radio signal. It is also very easy to upgrade to 17GHz because it is an ISM, you do not need to wait for a frequency and license to be allocated to you by ICASA, which means that you can deploy immediately. Another reason to choose 17GHz is that it is readily available for purchase from MiRO. With sufficient stock-holding, various antenna options, and a multitude of available options for financing, it is the most convenient way to upgrade your network.

How about licensed radio links?

SIAE’s licensed radios are available in two models, namely the ALFOPlus and ALFOPlus2, where the former is single polarised only, and the latter dual polarised. These radios are available in a wide variety of frequencies (6- to 42GHz) and configurations, to suit your needs. Should you not be certain of what it is that you need, MiRO will assist you every step of the way. We have an expert sales-team in place, that will assist you with obtaining the needed details, such as tower heights, coordinates and throughput requirements. Once all the required details are known, our technical team will do the pre-sales link planning for you. Lastly, you will receive a Wireless Package, which includes your link planning, a quotation, and a completed ICASA license application form, ready for you to submit. The best about it: we provide this unique service to you, free of charge!

Versatility

SIAE has, apart from the wide range of frequencies, a variety of options available, so that every solution will suit your exact needs. The standard 17GHz link comes with a 100mbps license, which is upgradable to 500mbps, should your need for throughput increase at a later stage.  Furthermore, you have the option of 30-, 60-, 90- and even 120cm dishes, depending on your link distance.

Additional licenses are also available for Packet Header Compression and Adaptive Code & Modulation, SIAE further offers an additional 36 months warranty for additional peace of mind.

Packet Header Compression Technology

Packet Header Compression is the technology whereby the headers of packets are compressed before transmission, and decompressed afterwards, to obtain a higher throughput performance and efficiency, whilst maintaining current link speed. Effectively, you will be able to handle more data, with a new or existing link, even though your theoretical throughput speed remains the same. If traffic is composed of 100% jumbo frames, increase in throughput will be limited to about 8%. With realistic mixed traffic, 128bytes up to jumbo frames, you will experience a gain of 20-25%. If traffic is composed, for example, out of 100% VoIP traffic, the maximum gain is 100%, doubling the throughput. Essentially, the smaller the packets, the higher the quantity of those packets, the more compression is possible.
