Cambium ePMP: Built for VoIP

Not only does Cambium’s ePMP products provide cost effective, stable and robust fixed, wireless broadband access, but they also provide the perfect infrastructure for your VoIP network.  According to the Tolly Group (an independent, third party, benchmark company), Cambium’s ePMP solution has been documented to support up to 60 simultaneous VoIP calls at high quality! Other key benefits of using Cambium’s ePMP include:

  • Delivers low latency and low jitter for VoIP data
  • Mean Opinion Score (MOS) score higher than 3.5 (on a scale of 1 to 5, 5 being excellent)
  • ePMP provides consistent high throughput with minimum latency for VoIP at the same time.
  • eFortify capability in ePMP maintains high-performance constant by taking care of external interference.
  • Adaptive modulation is very important – the link will remain “up” and “stable” even when the modulation drops, which means that the link will continue to send and receive, instead of losing connection.
  • Minimum latency.

But how does the ePMP solution from Cambium achieve all this?

The ePMP Product Line has significant advantages as compared to other solutions from a system solution perspective. These advantages come from capabilities that only ePMP offers:

GPS Synchronization

By using GPS synchronization with the feature “Automatic SM Transmit Power Control” you can deploy highly scalable networks with virtually no self-interference.

Easy to deploy

You can make use of a Cambium ePMP VoIP kit to simplify the setup of your VoIP wireless network.

Consistent Performance

An adaptive scheduler works hand in hand with the QoS capability to ensure consistency of performance. The ePMP uses an advanced priority based, air fairness, starvation avoidance scheduling algorithm to ensure that there is sufficient bandwidth available at peak usage times for voice calls.

AirFairness

Basically, in terms of Air Fairness, the scheduler prevents a few “Bad” SMs from dragging down the entire Access Point and makes sure the Bad SMs get the consistent throughput which in turn makes the link is more stable. Resources are allocated based on time, not throughput. SMs, with VoIP packets that need to be sent, can “piggyback” a bandwidth request onto the uplink.

Adaptive Modulation

The ePMP also supports an intelligent, interference-aware adaptive modulation scheme that balances the jitter requirements of high quality voice traffic with that of data traffic.

eFortify – Mitigation of External Interference

eFortify allows the ePMP platform to recognize and react to external interference.  It ensures that, under various sources of external interference, the throughput of an ePMP network is not only maximized but that the latency remains consistent. It also assures that as a network operator increases the number of subscriber modules, the performance of the system is sustained under challenging interference environments.

Advanced QoS & Multi Capabilities Supporting Advanced Services

The ePMP products feature a robust Quality of Service capability that ensures high priority, time-sensitive data is given priority for transmission. What this means is that the ePMP radios automatically detect Voice Packets and give them the highest priority treatment. This ensures low and consistent latency and high-quality voice connections even during times of network congestion due to high data bandwidth demands. The ePMP radios can also be configured to transmit data based on traffic markings. The SM’s priority can also be set to low, normal or high, allowing you to have SLAs with your customers.

eCommmand – Industry leading tools to plan, provision and monitor the network

eCommand provides a suite of management tools to plan, provision and monitor the network. eCommand includes a capacity planner, spectrum analyser, and a new network interference tool. The interference tool identifies the sources of external interference and characterizes their impact on each ePMP node (Access Point and subscriber modules) of the network. It provides a quick snap shot of the environment around each node to provide the operator information about the health of their network. Using this information, the operator can take appropriate steps to resolve performance issues in the network, and to combat these external interferers.
